You want your business to stand out on the search engine results page, but with new and ever changing algorithms, organic results can push these down further. Your goal is to stand out from competitors, and in order to do this you must entice users to click through to your site. Here are a few ways in which you can improve your SERPs listings to get more attention.

1. A Winning Meta Description

A full meta description can help to bump CTR on SERPs, further increasing it on the results page. Be sure to use as many of the 160 characters as possible, including a call to action and use keywords to bring more attention to your listing.

2. Create Dual Rankings

Having two results that lead back to the same domain can help you in the results page greatly. Revise your higher and lower ranking pages to increase their rankings, by matching keywords but ensuring that you do not duplicate the title or description, they must be unique.

Drive internal links to the lower ranking page, and outside links to the higher ranking page. You can do this by writing guest blog posts and emailing government sites to get links from them.

3. Search Friendly URLs

The format of your URL can influence what is displayed in SERPs, so ensure that you use search engine friendly file names and permalink structures to make listings more relevant.

4. Local Search

Optimising your site for local search can help people to find you and increase CTR. Be sure to fill out your business listings effectively, as this will can help with rankings and increase your chances of having map listing shown in the SERPs.

5. Sitelinks

These are the links underneath your root domain listing, which can influence users click through rate and to increase their likelihood of exploring your entire site. To help this reach its potential, create a clear navigation that emphasises the most important sections of your site, and improve your internal linking to drive value from one page to another.

 

Whilst getting your site to the top of Google’s SERPs is important, don’t forget to create a strong Google listing, which can highlight you against competition.
